A suitable assessor must:

b. be a member of an appropriate professional body which requires a relevant qualification in SpLD assessment, (e.g. British Psychological Society [BPS], the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specifc Learning Difficulties

[Patoss]).

c. hold a current Practising Certificate issued by their professional body

d. after 3 years, assessors will need to show evidence of relevant continuing professional development [CPD] to update their current Practising Certificate

Since 2007/2008, Patoss maintains registers of individuals holding current Practising Certificates.

SASC, The SpLD Assessment Standards Committee is a standard-setting group concerned with the diagnostic assessment of specific learning difficulties in an educational setting. The authority for this committee stems from the SpLD Working Group 2005/DfES Guidelines. All assessors of specific learning difficulties must adhere to these guidelines.
