What are some of the possible indicators of dyslexia for ages 12 years+?

Indicators of possible dyslexia:

  • reads slowly without fluency.

 

  • misreads words or information.

 

  • continues to experience spelling difficulties.

 

  • writes slowly

 

  • writes illegibly

 

  • is better at verbal expression than written expression

 

  • finds it difficult to plan, sequence and organise written text.

 

  • has difficulty with sentence construction and/or punctuation.

 

  • finds it hard to skim, scan and/or proof read written text.

 

  • finds it hard to summarise information.

 

  • finds it hard to take notes.

 

  • avoids reading and writing tasks.

 

  • does not complete assignments or class work.

 

  • finds it hard to remember information.

 

  • mispronounces or misuses some words.

 

  • has poor planning and organisation skills.

 

  • has poor time management skills.

 

  • has more difficulty in language-based subjects (e.g. English, History) than in non-language based subjects (e.g. Mathematics, Design Technology).
